Spring Break without breaking your Budget
· Beach: Go to a beach location. The sand and the water offer hours of fun at no extra cost, other than some cheap plastic buckets, shovels to play with. You can walk the boardwalk, or fish from the pier, watch the sunset and sunrise all without spending any money!
· Hotel location at the beach area: It’s always cheaper to get a hotel right across the street from the beach . If your room is high enough you’ll still be able to see the beach, and enjoy staying in that -beach town or city atmosphere. hotelscombined.com is a great site that lets you check multiple hotel reservation websites, in one search, rather than going to individual sites.
· Day Trips: Spring break is just a week, so you can take a couple of day trips. You’ll still enjoy a new place and the feeling of being away from the daily grind, without spending for overnight stay. You would be surprised at how many beautiful places there are right in your state or close by within 2-3 hours drive. When we think or plan of vacations we always think of places far away, but you can enjoy just as much, the essence of seeing a new place close by. You take turn driving, leave early, pack a picnic basket, enjoy a full day of fun and still are back to your own cozy bed to sleep.
· Water Park / Theme Park: Go to a couple of these parks right in your city, or close by. It’s a day’s worth of fun without having to plan or pay for a whole trip. For a lot of these locations you can look for coupons for admissions. For example, at times Coke cans will have discounts for Six Flag or White Water tickets.
· Ski Resort in spring: Why not. Basically, you need to look for off season places to go. A ski resort may not have too much snow in spring, but they offer plenty of other non -ski activities such as hiking, biking, and are just as beautiful, only a lot cheaper. Usually the off season starts early April.
· Swap places with close friends & family: If your close friends and family has spring break at the same time, you can go visit their place and vice versa. Both parties will save a whole bunch, not having to pay for Hotel. The best part is both parties will enjoy traveling somewhere, and you don’t have to worry about entertaining each other.
· Camping: If you already don’t have camping gear, you can partner up with someone to go along on the trip, or borrow from friends or family. Once you do that the only other cost for you is the fee at the camping grounds, and for food. You can enjoy, and venture the outdoors, and nature, without spending much at all.
· Cruise: Most cruises are all inclusive deals, minus the alcoholic beverages, tips, and extra amenities. There are pretty inexpensive 3-4 night cruises available any time of the season. Since food and basic entertainment are already included in the price, it’s easy to stay within your budget. Cruisedirect.com lets you search all the cruiselines in one search and has great deals on Family Cruises.
· Be a Local Tourist: The grass always looks greener on the other side. That’s how I thought, before we had our son. No matter where you live there are plenty of beautiful landmarks, to enjoy, and see, that we sometimes tend to ignore. With a toddler who always likes to be out and enjoy seeing new places, I discovered so many places to visit in and around Atlanta, that I may have driven past a 100 times but never stopped by. Familiarize yourself with your town or city you live in; doing this with your kid(s) can be lots of fun.
Where are you going this spring break?

March 16th, 2009 at 5:58 amThanks Srijana. Oh yeah, hotels across the street from the beach are great, because you still can get some sort of a view, and the be close to beach activities for a lot less!

March 17th, 2009 at 5:58 pmI live right outside of a major tourist city. We have hundreds of hotels that charge half the price of the ones on the beach. You get the same atmoshere without the hype and inflated prices…
