Thanks Sumi for sharing. Excellent tips. It is a great idea to do separate packing lists for kids and you, and separate columns for carry on and checked bag items. Otherwise we all know how easy it might be to forget items like the baby monitor, the day of the trip, when you're trying to rush out of the house with the little ones!:) Good idea on making a worksheet of lesson learned after a trip, will have to try that next time.

Thanks Lori. There are Travel space saver bags, which you can simply squeeze and roll, this removes the air out.

Forgot to add that once I return from a visit I add in another worksheet for lessons learned. This helps tremendously with your tip on not bringing things that you didn't need on your last trip. And the point is to do it shortly after your return so it's still fresh in your mind.

I love the fact that you added in a packing list. I've been using excel for this the last four years (since my son was 2) and it's helped tremendously. I have separate lists for the kids and myself (husband packs his own things) and then a combined family list. I also have a column to say whether it will be carry on or check in and a separate column to check off when I've packed something. This comes in especially handy for those last minute items that have to wait for the morning of departure like a baby monitor, toiletries, or nightlight.

I love the space saver bags, but a lot of times I am staying in a hotel and don't have a vacuum to seal them back up when I need to leave. Any suggestions?
